OWNERS' REPORT
The eighth annual report of the British Sailing Ship Owners' Assi clation, which will be laid before the ninth annual meeting of the Asso- clation, to be held on December 4 next, shows that out of a total sall- ing ship tonnage in the world of 3,029,000 tons, excluding barges and similar craft, only 18,400 tons are owned In the British Isles. The Association itself has a membership of 664 ships of 51,905 net tons be- longing to 343 owners.
The report states that during the year ended June 30, 1928, Lloyd's Register records a decrease in the world tonnage of sailing ships of 100 tons gross and over, excluding those fitted with auxillary engines, of 130,362 gross tons, but it is in- teresting to note that the decrease in sailing ship tonnage during these twelve months was not eo great 'as the decrease during the twelve months ended June 80, 1927, when the corresponding figure was 186.- 825 gross tons. The total world tonnage of sailing vessels of 100 tons gross and over, excluding those with auxiliary power recorded on
Lloyd's Register at June 30, 1928, was 1,795,246.
