The outcome of these experiences was many witty and charming memories.
Lord Frederick's recollections dwell affectionately on his mother, the famous first Duchess of Aber- Corn, who lived to the age of 93, "with the full use of every Intellec- tual faculty and the retention of but Blightly Impaired bodily powers."
At her death in 1905 "she had 160 direct living descendants: chil- dren, grandchildren, great-grand- children, and great-great-grand- children, in addition to 37 grand- children and great-grandchildren by marriage. It is given to but few to ase their grandson's grand ['son!"
+
The sons and daughters of the duchess were known as "the Hand- some Hamiltons."..
In his closingyenra Lord Frederick was uncle in many pro minent families. He lived to see one of his nephews, the present Duke of Abercorn, become Governor of Northern Ireland. Other nephews Included, besides three dukes, the present Marquis of Lan's downe, Lord Mount Ergcumbe, Lord Winterton, and Lord Durham. Lord Lichfield is his grand-nephew,

(says
They cannot be widened the report) except at a tremendous outlay of capital and at enormous inconvenience and injury to trade, and the idea of building overhead roads is dismissed as inartistic and dangerous to public, health.
The committee recommends the immediate study of a series of underground roadways which will relieve, the traffic congestion on the surface, and as a first step it pro- poses building as rapidly as pos sible underground moving plat- forms which will carry goods of all descriptions between the differ- ent railway stations. It is believ ed that the carriage of thead goods underground, instead of by motor- lorries and other vehicles on the surface, will reduce the traffic con- gestion by 25 per cent.
