It is evident by the caution shown that they are testing the stability of the market and this has given rise to the belief that there is busi- ness to be booked when prices become steady. The amount of en- quiry from India was satisfactory, the chief items being dhooties and shirtings for Calcutta and Bombay. Several lots are reported to have been booked for both these outlets. Little was mentioned beyond en- quiry for other Indian markets.

QUIET WEEK WITH FEW MOVEMENTS.
UNDERTONE STEADY.
Messrs. Moxon and Taylor, in their weekly share report under date September 14 state:--
We experienced a quiet market during the week under review with only a moderate amount of busi- ness put through; at the close the undertone is fairly steady.
Shanghal market continued quiet but there was more demand for cot tons with buyers of Ewos at Tis. 10. The following are the principal alterations since last week:
Banks-Wore steady with buy- era at $1,295, but sellers holding out for rather more.
Unions:-Again advanced and sales took place at $372, at which price more shares could be placed.
Canton Insurances: hands at $700/695,
Changed
Hong Kong Fires:-Were on offer at $800 without, however, attracting buyers..
China Fires:-Experienced a firm and rising market and close with buyers at $275.
China Underwriters:-Were in demand at $2.55.
Hong Kong Hotels:-Were done at $8.80, but buyers have now re- duced their offers to $8.55.
.Hong Kong Landa:-Met with a good demand and came to business
at $67, but closed a shade easter with sellers at $66.

China has submitted a number of offers for whites and coloured gooda, several of which appear likely to result in business, but the other Far Eastern centres remain inactive. Both Egypt and the Levant have been interested in bleaching cloths but little is being done with South America. The Continent is very quiet and is only Imperialtaking amall lots hare and there. Home trade remains, neglected. In tho yarn sections business has been very alack, as what little enquiry has come to hand has chiefly been of the price-testing order, and the turnover in the American section is only moderate. This has been the Bame in the case of Egyptian yarns.
