The above remarkable pictures were made by Photographer Luce as the aeroplane of Major Mad- dalena, Italian ace, circled above the pack ice on which the group of Italia refugees was marooned. The famous "red tent" is within the circle. The aller desconded to within a few feet, shouted en- couragement to the men on the foe below and then sped away to notify the ice-breaker "Krassin" of the location.
