THEATRE.

A most unusual picture, "The Eight of Asia," the screen story of the life of Gautama Buddha, will commence a four days' run at the World Theatre on Sunday, accord ing to a special advertisement ap- pearing in this issue. This is a re- markable production in many reg pects, having been photographed in the actual settings in India with a purely Indian cast. Many colour- ful scenes depicting interesting In- dian customs are included in the picture together with not a few spectacular ones, among the latter a mighty contest of strength and

skill in which noble princes meet and compete to win the hand of a beautiful princess. The production is authentic in every detail. Splen didly directed and photographed, it is a notable piece of screen art as well as an arresting pleture.

CHINA NEWS, LOCAL NEWS

AND ALL THE NEWS

SEND IT HOME!

Most important in this week's news is the report that British residents of Peitaiho, the famous summer resort near Peking, have been told officially to hold themselves in readiness to move out at a moment's notice should fighting break out there. The American residents have already been warned to evacuate. The trouble, of course, is caused by the renewal of hostilities between the Nationalists and the Northerners who are holding on tenaciously to less than a tithe of their former glories. To complicate matters further, an accusa- tion has been made that Japan wishes to help the Northemers.

Such news will have caused people in other parts of the world to take notice. Please them by sending them a full and concise account of what is going on out here. You can do so with the least trouble by posting a copy of the "Overland China Mail.", the only illustrated weekly summary of local and China news published in Hong Kong.

There is much else of absorbing interest in this week's "Overland," sufficient to meet all tastes, Naval and Military events are recorded, including the arrival of H.M.S. **Cornwall," the fruitless search for pirates by H.M.S. ́ Seraph," the District Court Martial, changes in the Dockyard staff, etc.

The return of Mr. Chu Chao-hain, the sequel to the firing on the British s.s. "Baron Macaulay," the visit of Hong Kong's interport lawn bowls team to Shanghai and preparations for the Grand Tattoo are among the other items dealt with.
