STRANGE THEFT.
BAG OF GEMS LEFT AT STATION.
Cardiff,—An exraordinary story of the disappearance of diamonds and sapphire rings valued at £1,000 from a traveller's bag lies behind the announcement in Cardiff of a reward of £50, offered on behalf of Lloyd's underwriters, for the ap prehension of the thief or thieves. The bag was found underneath a seat of a compartment of a train at Cheltenham empty except for private papers belonging to Mr. James, of Cathedral-road, Cardiff, a traveller representing a firm of Hatton Garden diamond merchants. CHINA NEWS, LOCAL NEWS
AND ALL THE NEWS
SEND IT HOME!
ན
Several times each week, cables come through with reports of question and statements in the House of Commons. The topic is China. Interest at Home and in other parts of the world is as keen as it was at any stage. Otherwise so much publicity would not have been given. Many points arise, such as the pusition of British trade, British residents, the units in the former Shaforce, etc. Treaty revision is engaging the attention of a number of capitals. In short, the establish- ment of the Nationalists in Peking has proved to be a matter of considerable concern.
This week has seen the Nationalist military leaders coming together in a form of working agreement; the diplomats un- nouncing a bold course in foreign relations; and the financiers taking of a new tariff irrespective of undertakings given hitherto, Reports from all centres, the "China" cables, ex- planations and copious footnotes will be found as usual in the "Overland China Mail"
Naval and Military occurrences in Hong Kong and in the North China Command, the week's local news and other items will all be found in the "Overland," the only illustrated weekly summary of events published in Hong Kong.

By spending a little time while you are on holiday, you can keep yourself well informed if you have the "Overland." The articles which you will seek are written to help non- Chinese to understand. In any case, you will not regret, from your own point of view, being posted with the main develop ments (reported in brief) while you are away.
