AN EXPERT'S REVIEW OF THE 'FLOODS.

NOT SO BAD THIS YEAR.

Mr. G. W. Olivecrona, Engineer- In-Chief of the Board of Conser vancy Works of Kwangtung, issues the following statement regarding the present condition of the rivers in the province:

The last raining period caused a rise in the rivers but, fortunately, not to such a height as to make havoc amongst the dykes. No in- undation has taken place within the dyke-protected districts but, naturally, in places where no dyke incon- protection exists, some ventence has been felt by the rising water...
