Senator Charles Curtis Nominated As Vice-President,
Kansas City, Yesterday. The surprising feature in the

the King that he had ascertained that the proposed appointment of a fixed date for Easter would be gen- erally acceptable throughout Christendom and was approved by the Convocations of Canterbury and York and the National Assem- bly of the Church of England.
Sir Vivian Henderson, Under- Secretary of the Home Office, ob- jected to this amendment on the ground that it would give power of veto to bodies with whom the Secretary of State would have to negotiate.
Another member, Major Birchall, opposed the amendment for the reason that it would be beyond the power of even the present versatile Home Secretary to ascertain the view which would be accoptable to Christian people throughout Christendom.
The amendment was withdrawn and another and mora practicable amendment was submitted by Sir Henry Slesser (Labour) to the effect that before making an order £xing Easter regard should be had to any opinion, "Officially express- ed" by the Church of England, Roman Catholle Church and other Christian bodies.
