4. During the year under review the staff of the Survey Office was considerably depleted, the following surveyors being seconded to assist the Crown Lands Department for varying periods:-

Mr. E. B. Lambert, 1st Class Land Surveyor, remained seconded to the Crown Lands Department.

Mr. B. H. C. Hallowes, 1st Class Land Surveyor, was seconded to Crown Lands Office from 15/7/30 to 31/12/30.

Mr. O. C. Womack, 2nd Class Land Surveyor, was seconded to Crown Lands Office on 1/7/30 and is still attached to that Sub-Department.

Mr. Pang Iu Ki, Apprentice Surveyor, was seconded to the Assessors Office from 9th February.

Messrs. Tong Fook In and Lo Hok Kai, Apprentice Surveyors, were promoted to 3rd Grade Assistant Land Surveyors during the year.

Six Student Surveyors (Chinese) were appointed during the year.

5. I regret to have to report the death of Mr. Cheung U Kuen, 3rd Class Assistant Land Surveyor.

6. Expenditure.—As the Survey Office forms part of the Public Works Department, and is accommodated in the same building the charges for such items as lighting, heating &c. cannot be stated.

Omitting these items the statement of costs is as follows:--
