London, Yesterday, Further important develop- ments are to take place in tthe nianufacture of rubber tyres in this country. It is learned that both the Firestone and Pirelli companies, who have hitherto supplied this market from their) factories outside this country, are building new works here. They are preparing for a large output.
There are now three firms who have taken this step since Mr. Churchill in the last budget in- cluded tyres in the same fiscal category as motorcars and impos- ed on them an import duty of 33.1/3 per cent. The third is Messrs.. Goodyear, who announe- ed last July that they were estab- fishing a factory at Wolverhamp- ton where they would employ. 1,000 men on tyre making-Bri- tish Wireless Service.
