Paris Forecasts Reveal Daytime and Evening Costumes in

Black Other Shades Seen. A Longer Silhouette

Is Noted.

The fashion forecast is always interesting.

Inevitably there are new lines, new colours, new thoughts and new features, all struggling to gain first position.

Colours are always important. Often a distinctive new shade is Introduced that will do much to make the season stand out as show- ing something entirely different. Then again it may be a completely different silhouette that will mark the mode or it may be a differ- ent length of skirt that will be most important. This season sees several points of interest stressed, with no marked attention being paid to them. A general change In the silhouelle fa noted, but the change has been made without radical departure from past modes. In colours black is seen holding an important place in fall styles. Black flat crepe is being shown

for models in the daytime, some- times relieved by a touch of pink or green. Black georgette appears in many dinner costumes, while black velvet is seen for both for- mal and informal costumes. Vel- vet appliques and crepe satins are. used for contrast and produce some extremely interesting results. Greys, too, are important and will succeed in a measure the belges of past seasons..

Sophisticated simplicity seems to be the high light of the new mode. The majority of frocks show con- trasted, effects with diagonal seam- Ings and bandings used from the right shoulder to the left hip. The skirts, too, show this diagonal line from the left hip to the right hem.

High waistlines and loose panela a pleats and novel cuts seem to be featured in other models. High collara, too, are a new point of in- terest. The flared silhouette and uneven her is marked in other models. Bolted frocks

are scen

and the uneven hem is usually longer at the back. Side drapery will prove important in adding a note of interest to many of the fall costumes. Side point drapery on either blouse or skirt is fre- quently seen, lending a graceful silhouette.

Billie Dove, who may always be relied upon to appear in the very newest of fashion's favourites, is Been wearing a now, costume that boasts many of the new pointe. It is of black, simply made, with long sleeves and a. slight flare at the hemline. A grey for scarf and

The Sports Theme Manages to

#

Maintain Place of First Importance, Coats Accompany Many Costumes,

Although there is a distinct ten- dency to follow a decidedly femini ine line of softness and pleasing fullness, there is by no means an absence of sports feeling in the Winter mode. In fact, the sports; theme is seen in a place of first im- portance in many of the Paris, openings.

Naturally the clothes that are sports must possess sports silhou worn while participating in active ettes and comfort giving lines as well as a chic that often goes with this type of costume. However, even in frocks that are not design- ed primarily for sports, the sports theme is noted.
