Easter Day only won by two lengths in a race which proved very interesting after it had been pre- dicted to have a foregone conclu- sion, but the favourite seemed to have a slight reserve in hand. The winner jumped easily and cleanly, but Caviare was better on the flat, jump, which he took heavily, only to be pegged back at the next fence. Easter Day led at the start but the two were level, after half a mile. Caviare held a neck advantage at the three quarters. When a mile had been covered, Easter Day be- gan to draw away. Four lengths behind at one stage, Osborne rode a gruelling race on Caviare and was deservedly applauded for re- ducing the margin at the finish to two lengths.

Setting a hot pace from the fall of the flag, Dumb-bell confounded the book of form by going on to Loch Rannoch

Sunning uncoated Race Horse Charles early on and Iron General Borderer refused at the last fence but one, Pekin but was pulled up emartly and driven on to be in at the kill. The result was that Dumb-bell kept on increasing his advantage and won easily. Drake was second-after having taken a walk on the branch railway before the start. Yorka, Two Step, Iron General and Smart Guy had a rattling set-to for third place. Yorks was far behind Drake but he beat Two Step by a head. Only four tickets were sold on Dumb-bell in the winners' tote.

He was pursued by Humdinger; favourite, Ace of Spades (an out- sider again in spite of a good show- ing in the second race), Seal Tax, Borderer, Man of War and Rupert in the order given. Jumps were! taken smartly and there 138 по slackening in the pace. Durham won by many lengtha. Humdinger, managed to diapose of Ace of Spades for second money, the latter returning $34.60 for third place as Charles got the best out of Man of there were only 3 tickets on him.; War to finish a good fourth. Next were Borderer, Loch Папкось (second favourite), Wai Chow and Rupert.
