THE FINAL OF OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.

TWO DOCK COMPETITORS.

THE CHINA MAIL,

A perfect afternoon, a good green, slightly affected by a wind inclined to be strong occasionally a factor which, at times, was not, perhaps, appreciated by the com- petitors and a large and enthusias- tic gathering of lawn bowls en thusiasta combined to make Saturday's function at the Kowloon Cricket Club, the final to the Singles Championship of the Colony, a great success.

gone through the season without losing a single match. I do not think this has ever been done be- fore, but if so, I shall no doubt be corrected by the Talkoo Club who used to carry all before them in.the old days of this competition.

I will now ask Mr. Cooper to come forward and receive the League Shield presented by Mr. J. Raid, a former President, who, I know, is very well remembered by all of us.

Little Miss Lammert then pre- sented Mrs. Sutherland with a handsome bouquet of pink roses, in a sliver vase tied with the Lawn Bowls Association colours.

Our President said at the dinner that when his wife asked him a certain question in connection with his Presidentship, that he must have notice of the question. He has not had any notice concerning bis part in the proceedings: but The 2nd Division Shield has been I think wo should all be very won by the Kowloon Cricket Club | pleased if he will wind up by anying after a very close finish. Tribute to Players.

Addressing the company, Mr. C. J. Tacchi, the Hon. Secretary of the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Asso- ciation, Bald:----

Ladies and Gentlemen,I have a very pleasant duty to perform in asking Mrs. Sutherland to present the prizee won in the various com. petitions for the year.

Messrs. Morrison, Laing and Chalmers. In addition he has played in several Interport matches against Shanghai in which he has always given a very good

-account-of himself. -

In conclusion I cannot lose this opportunity of thanking Mr. Suther- land and Mr. Templeton for the very fine prizes they have presented. The H.K.L.B.A. has always been very fortunate in having such gen- erous Presidents and Vice-Presi- dents, and it would be unnecessary to mention names. They have all

put their right hande very deeply into their trousers pockets, and Mr. Sutherland has kept me busy. Mr. Sutherland has certainly not been behind his precedessors in this respect.

In addition, I want to mention that he has taken a very keen per in tho Associa sonal Interest tion. He has kept me

busy delving into various matters in connection with the Association, and himself au falt with all that went on. Even at the Interport dinner I missed three courses owing to his determination that it should be a success, but I did not miss any of the toasts.

Tribute to Mr. Tacchi.

I think you will all agree with me that Mr. Tacchi has dealt splendidly with the game. We also rejoice to se many old faces among those present this afternoon. We are glad that Mr. Lapsley has at last come into his own. He has had bad luck several times in the past, but now at last he has come
