L4'S EXPLOIT.
COMMENT BY A HOME PAPER.
The "Daily Express" of October 22, in commenting on the "L. 4" ex- ploit in Bias Bay, xays:---
As long as we exist as a nation Trafalgar Day will keep its hold on the hearts and minds of the Bri- tish people. The simple cere monies of yesterday commemorated a man, a deliverance, and, above all, a tradition that to the end of time will be a national inspiration. What Nelson was and what he did will outlive the day, if ever that day comes, when the Navy has reased to be our main shield of de- fence. It has not 'come yet. At the very moment the great Ad miral's memory was being honoured the cables were busy with an ex ploit in Chinese waters which shows how the Nelson spirit and the Nelson touch still animate the Fleet. The recapture of Sub- marine "L 4" of a vessel that had been seized by Chinese pirates, the fine seamanship and humanity that, in spite of fire and a heavy swell, rescued all on board, and the promptness with which the pirates' lair was wiped out make an episode of the sea as clean eut as any Nelson himself assisted at off the coast of Barbary. Dead for nearly A century and a quarter, he lived again in the dash and completeness of that decisive encounter.
