PIRATES IN ARMED LAUNCH.
The Waishing," which is on the triangular run from Hong Kong to Tsingtao via Swatow and Shanghai and back to Hong Kong and Canton, was on the way to Hong Kong from Canton when the incidents took place.
About three o'clock yesterday afternoon, as the ship was nearing Amherst Point (about twenty miles from Canton), an armed launch painted black was ob- served, making toward the "Wai- shing." The launch (the num- ber of which was noticed to be 2,711) fired in the direction of the "Waishing" and, thinking that it might be a Chinese naval patrol boat with legitimate business, the Captain of the "Waishing" atop ped the engines with a view to allowing the boat to come along. side.
As the launch came nearer. however, it was observed that its occupants were far from giving the appearance of being in any official capacity. They were ob viously of the roughest type, and their intention was evidently to get on board and loot what they could.

Leaders Flocking To Canton.
Shanghai, To-day..
An official statement issued by the Nationalist News Agency atates that, nccording to con- fidential reports, 50 rifles and 300 Russian officers from Vladivo stock are on their way to Canton, whilst Chinese Communist lead- ere are flocking to Canton from their refuges.
Posters in Canton appeal to the people to oppose all communica- tion with the Communists, "which policy is imperilling the Kuomintang."
The Nationalist News Agency adds that Kwangtung has been chosen as the base of A Com- munist revolution having as its purpose the destruction of the anti-Communistic Kuomintang
and the Nationalist Government, "but the Nationalist leaders are alive to the dangers of the situa- tion and will take strong sures to nip the pernicious plan in the bud Reuter.
