This week a series of military moves in northern China has led to the Fengtien forces, who are opposing the Shansi troops, taking the offensive, with the result that the fortunes of war have completely turned in favour of Marshal Chang Tso-lin's adherents. These moves are graphically set out in the "Overland Mail," official news agency cables being intel- ligently supplemented by our staff of Chinese correspondents and observers who are in touch with conditions on the fighting. fronts.

Another important phase of the Chinese political and military situation which is dealt with by our corre ondents and staff men is the gradual but apparently inevitable change of power which is taking place in Canton. General Li Chai-sum never considered over masterful or strongly situated as leader in the Kwangtung capital, seems to be in process of supplantment by another Southern military chef, Chang Fa-hu. who recently returned to Canton with his famous body of troo known as the Ironsides. The "Overland contains, this week, the full story of what is taking place, together with an account of the clash between rival munitary factions in the city.
