68. Maintenance of Buildings.-The buildings upon which considerable sum was expended were the following:-

Houses in Chatham Road resumed for future extension of road--General repairs and limewashing throughout, $3,875 Yaumati Police Station-General repairs and painting throughout, 2,323 Royal Observatory-General repairs and painting throughout, 1,418 Mataukok Cattle Depôt :- General repairs and limewashing and tarring internally only, $398 Inspector's Quarters--Renewing ant-eaten timbers and general repairs, 523 Water Police Station-Sundry repairs, 921 Kowloon School-Renewing floor joists and flooring to class-rooms, 290 Yaumati Market-General repairs, limewashing and tarring internally only, 269 211

69. Maintenance of Roads and Bridges (Approximate Mileage 28). The roads generally were maintained in a satisfactory manner. The macadamizing of Nathan Road for the full width was continued between Cameron and Granville Roads. The kerbing, channelling and macadamizing of that portion of Chatham Road between Austin and Gascoigne Roads was completed. The footway on the north side of Carnarvon Road was entirely relaid with granolithic paving.

Tar Macadam was laid on the following roads :-

Carnarvon Road (remaining portion), Junction of Nathan and Peking Roads, 1,759 yards. 200 "" 1,959 ""

The surfaces of the following roads were tarred and sanded :-
