Mr. Nicholson, who succeeded the .. late Sir Frederick Bridge, has been a very notable Abbey organist, and during his period of office has in- troduced many Innovations.

On a number of occasions he has given the congregations singing lessons before the evening services, and he inaugurated a Westminster Abbey special choir which added a valuable factor to Londop musical life. He was the organist at the wedding of Princess Mary and he composed a special anthem for the occasion.

He has composed several works, chiefly of a religious kind, although he wrote the music for a romantic light opera, of which George A. Birmingham (Canon Hannay) was the author. He has also made a number of speeches which have at tracted considerable attention.

Mr. Nicholson, who is a son of the late Sir Charles Nicholson, was at one time acting organist of or Carlisle Cathedral, and was ganist of Manchester Cathedral from 1908 to 1018. He is an M.V.O.
