Thus, far, nothing definite has been done toward the salvaging of the vessel, Mr. Mauro said, as no definite reports on the condition of the ill-fated boat have been receiv ed by him. The steamship "Sal- vager," belonging to the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific company, which went to the scene of the accident, has not yet arrived in Manila. The date of its arrival is not known. MOVEMENTS OF STEAMERS. The vessel is in the south.
Mr. Prieto said that a consider- able amount of water has got into the hold and the cargo has become wet. He said that the cargo of hemp is probably totally destroyed. The cargo of copra carried by the bont may also have been wet, and has probably decayed, too, he stat- ed.
It has been learned from him that the company insuring the vessel will determine whether the "Begona" is a total wreck or not, as soon as reports are received by
the firm.
CHAPEL ISLAND LIGHT. The Installation of the new light- ing apparatus at Chapel Island will be completed on or about the September 26. The new lighting apparatus will be dioptric of the Grst order. The character of the new light will be group-flashing, showing one flash followed by three flashes every 20 seconds, and will wea- be visible 22 miles in clear ther. The height of the centre of the light above high water is 227 feet. The temporary light which is at present being exhibited will be discontinued simultaneously with the exhibition of the new light.

The s.s.Takliwa" left Singapore for this port on September 9 at p.m.. and is due here to-morrow at a.m.
The Ben Line 8.8. "Benavon" from Leith, Middlesbro', Antwerp, London and Strafts, is due to arrive here to-morrow.
The C.P.S., R.M.S. "Empresas of Ania" will leave here for Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., via Shanghai, Nagasaki, Kobe and Yokohama, at noon to-morrow.
