Announcement is made of the death of Mr. John Maurice D'Alton, of Tientsin. He was. 70 years, of age, and retired from the Chinese Maritime Customs after 40 years in China, which included service' at Hong Kong, Shanghai, Yangtse ports, Newchuang and Tientsin. During the Franco-Chinese war Mr. D'Alton served in the Chinese navy, and received several Chinese de

A cable has been received from Antwerp announcing the death of Mr. Adolphe Adler, Member of the High Council of Belgium, Chevalier of the Order of Leopold, Officer of of the Order of the Crown, Com- memorative medal of 1914-1918 campaign, Victory Medal, Officer of the Order of the Lion and Sun of Perala. Mr. Adler, who Is the father of Mrs. Rupert Manasseh and Mrs. E. S. Nathan, has been on several visits to Singapore and will be much regretted by his numerous friends.
