4. Comparison of Waterworks Revenue, 1912 and 1913.-The following is a comparative statement of the revenue derived from Waterworks during the years 1912 and 1913 :
1912. 1913. City (as above stated), $ 316,264.22 $ 296,126.57 Hill District, 10,906.39 10,583.62 Pokfulam District, 2,296.25 1,089.00 Kowloon (as above described), 59,532.14 67,940.17 Aberdeen, 1,161.15 2,701.12 Shaukiwan, 2,155.94 2,248.93 Laichikok, 18,305.50 23,527.75 Total, 410,601.59 404,220.16The figures for excess consumption have been supplied by the Treasury and represent the actual amounts collected and placed to Revenue.
As explained in last year's Report, the revenue for 1912 was somewhat inflated owing to the accounts for 1911 having fallen into arrear through insufficiency of staff. The disconnection of the services to wharves along the City front during the period from 29th November, 1912, to 23rd April, 1913, on account of the shortage of water also caused a diminution in the receipts during the latter year. It will be observed that the only reduction of any moment is in the figures for the City, which are about $20,000 less than those for 1912.
