INDIANS FOR
COLONISATION.
'Durban, July 31. Professor G. F. Andrews, In a farewell Interview prior to his departure for India, stated that he left South Africa with a feeling of thankfulness for the remarkable growth of the friendly relationship between South Africa and India, which the presence of Mr. V, S. 3. Sastri had served to foster.
Owing to the admirable work of the round-table conference, a great principle had been brought to light which would gradually affect the whole Indian question, not only in the Union, but in every part of East and Central Africa.

This principle of strictly upholding family life was certain to have, in the long run, beneficial moral con sequences, and also to produce a younger generation whose birth place and home were Africa rather than India..
This ideal family life needed to be encouraged among Indians,. not only in South Africa, but right up the coast as well. It would even- tually lead to a community that was entirely Colonial born, and there fore all the more suitable for Afri- can colonisation.

HUMAN CANNON BALL.
INVENTOR SHOT 100 YARDS FROM A MORTAR.
Milán, July 10, A human cannon ball fired from a mortar to-day reached a net 100 yards distant before 800 spectators in Turin.
Ugo Zucchini, one of the inven- He tors, was the cannon ball. dressed in a leather suit and stood in a metal cylinder which reached above his knees,
When he was placed in the mor tar a powerful spring was released by electricity, which sent him fly- ing through the air in a trajectory 130 feet high. He fell heavily in the middle of the net, rebounded again and again, and a few minutes later stood bowing his acknowledg ments of tumultuous applause.
