As the Hamburg and Bremen lines have placed in the past six months a number of orders for new tonnage, the German ship- building yards are fully occupied at the present moment and conse quently not dependent on the im- mediate influx of further busi- ness prospects in that respect are not believed very favourable..
So far as can be ascertained, the big shipping companies have. practically completed their build- ing plans with the above-mention- ed orders, and they are therefore unlikely to increase their coinmit- tments for some time to come, all the more as it has been stated that some old vessels have been acquired abroad by one of them.
It is, therefore, not surprising that no contracts of any Import- ance have transpired in the recent past. On the other hand, unplea- sant surprise was caused by the announcement that three motor- ships were ordered recently in Sweden-one by à Hamburg oil- refinery and two by the Hamburg-
