The longer skirts, so often, fare- shadowed, but so saw in coming, made their appearance recently on the Ascot course, and according to leading dress designers in London the day of the short skirt, for gar- den party and evening wear at any rate. is passing.
The new style, as seen at Ascot, is in chiffon, and the dress in front falls two inches below the knee, but falls considerably lower at the back. Visitors in the paddock who noticed the few dresses of this fashion declared that the effect was charming.
Messages from Paris show
that the Paris dress designers are also sending longer skirts to the Grand Prix, and one English dress-arbist, Mr. Norman Hartnell, is sending a dress to France, to be worn at this fashion parade ground, in which the skirt at the back reaches almost to the ground.
