SEA POLLUTION BY OIL.

The London invention to prevent the pollution of the sea by the dis- charge

Coil from vessels has been

adopted by Messra. Furness, Withy. and Co., the shipowners. Four of their oil-drawn boats now being built on the Clyde are fitted with oil, and water separators, thus prevent- ing the pumping of oil into the sea,

which fouls shores and harbours and destroys bird and Ash life. while there is a great, saving of fuel. The purity of the effluent re- turned to the sen is twice that of the Admiralty's present limit, and Mr. H. J. Holford's separator deals with a hundred tons of fluid an hour.! These Clyde-built vessels will be the first to carry these separators.
