ETON BOY'S NOSE.
SEIZED BY MASTER'S BOA CONSTRICTOR.
LEMUR IN TUCK SHOP.
Live snakes and monkeys were once a feature of life at Eton Col- lege. They were the pots of Mr. M. D. HI, the biology master, who is retiring this half to go in for farming after 30 years at the col lege.
Before going to Eton Mr. Hill, who is 64, was assistant lecturer in zoology at Owen's College, Man-
choster.
Some of Mr. Hill's animals at Eton, such as the monkeya, snakes, mongooses, and lemurs, lived loose In his garden.. A boa constrictor became quite a favourite with the hoys, who used to wind it round- their bodies and necks and take it for walks.
During one such demonstration
the annke was twined around the neck of a woman visitor and after wards Mr. Hill handed it to one of the boys to return it to its cage. By this time the snake was probably tired of exhibition and fixed its teeth in the nose of the young Etonian. There was sudden bowl, but Mr. Hill released the boy's nose by pressing the reptile's. mouth with his fingers. Some minor puncture wounds were the only damage.
a
On another occasion à lemur was missed and was subsequently discovered drinking, lemonade in one of the Eton College tupk-shops. A bunch of banánus lured it back.
Another time a galago made its escape and led for a while on the roofs of the College houses, defy ing recapture. Ultimately it was found eating marmalade at 3 am
