CHAMPIONS EXITEMENT.

King of Hearts Wins Great Race.
FAVOURITE" NOWHERE.
Saligia Carries Off The Governor's Cup.
The third day of the Hong Kong Jockey Club's annual racing carnival has proved the most exciting, the Champions, which was, of course, the chief event, being won in sensational manner by an outside, with the favourite nowhere.
Ladies' Day proved very enjoy- able both from the racing and the public's point of view, but chief interest centred in the Cham- pions, the eighth race of the day.
Mr. L. Dunbag sturted two of his undefeated griffins in Elliot Bay (winner of the Derby) and Chesapeake Bay (winner of the Maiden Stakes and Exchange Plate) in opposition to Sir Victor Sassoon's (Mr. Eve) Bengal, the Tientsin cruck formerly owned by General Sutton.
The racing public, apprehen- sive that the Tientsin invader would carry of the Champions, looked to one of Mr. Dunbar's two Bays to retain the honour for the Colony. The two Bays are this year's Derby's griffins, Therefore it came as a surprise that the honour fell to King of Hearts, which belongs to Mr. Dynasty's much older stable. Mr. Dynasty is, of course, Mr. T. E. Pearce, with whom is associated Mr. F. B. Marshall, a well-known figure in Hong Kong racing for many years.
