Meeting.
Races.
A COMPARATIVE REVIEW.
By Patrol"] At the moment of writing, the weather forecass is not quite what is desired but wonditions have been much worse and Hong Kong's multitudes he previously sill en-, Joyed the annual race meeting.
Bardly any alteration has been made to the arrangements, either for members or for the public, at the race course and in the grand stand; so that everything should go through without a hitch.
A.
The programme is not quite tiko mame as it was last year. There are 40 rages (ton each day) against R. Lwelve months ago. Some of the engditions have been altered slightly. In one or two in- stances the stakes have been in- creased, and the distances of œ num- ber of races have been altered.
All in all, the ponies are better matched this year and the ven Iat of sube, should provide some five sport.

Good Fields Again. Altogether there are 124 ponies entered for the meeting but a small minority will not carry silk ofther through having gone wrong in training or herause of unsuitability.

We shall also sec a Chinese joc- key for the first time, this being Mr. Wong for Mr. H. P. White's stable), and who is a very capable gentleman rider.
"Grand Old Man" Missed.. This year, Hong Kong will misa the "rand Old Man" of the local turf owing to the death of the Hon. Sir Paul Chater. whose coloura (straw, white rap) hava made bis- tory in the Chint turf during the last sixty years.
By a coincidence. Sir Pauls re- doubtable trainer, Chi Ling, is now handling Mr. L. Dunbar's ponies, favourites for the 1927 Derby and Sir Paul won the 1926 Derby.
A distinguished personality in Sir Victor Sassoon, who also races extensively at Hortic and in Shang- bai, will be taking part next week. He races as "Mr. Eve" and his ponies are all named "Eve" with a distingulahing prefix of course. Sir Victor also has Bengal, the "Tientsin flier, which was purchased from General Sutton (Marshal Chang Tso-lin's adviser) and for whom the pony woh many races, ' Lady Owners,
Ladies will again be actually re- presented in the sport. Mrs. R. J. Paterson owns one of the biggest local stables and others whose dames are down ane Mrs. R. M. Austin, Mrs. D. G. M. Barnard, Mrs. R. M. Dyer, Mrs. H. H. Prieätley.
A perusal of the race book will show that there are still a good many who go in for fancy nomen- clature both in nomes-de-plume and in selection of names for their ponies.
น
Among the pony "strings" are the Bays, the Eves, the Kings, the Call, the elves beginning with G.), the Halls, the Boys, the Mountains &c. and there is one in The Pink Lady which may or may not be the hall mark of elegance.
