HULL INSURANCE.
EFFECT OF HIGHER PREMIUM RATES.
BY BRITISH UNDERWRITERS.
As is known, for a few years past business in the insurance of Norwegian hulls has been covered to an appreciable extent in the London market. Norwegian underwriters have maintained that their British colleagues have Just money on the business, and that this competition was ruining the Norwegian hull market.
In this connection "Norges Handels og Sjofartstidende" states that, the premium tariff which has now been fixed for the insurance of Norwegian hulls. following the understanding which was reached among British hull insurera about six months ago, afforda evidence that Nor- wegian: hull business has actually involved the English underwriters. in a loss, and that they consider it no sary to rectify the condi- tions in this respect. The pre- miams of the. tariff are much higher than those which are now in forte both in London and Oslo,
is assumed that the English tariff will lead to a hardening also of the rates preyaling in Norway for hull insurance. Still, Nor. wegian underwriters have not yet discussed the new situation, many of them are at present on their holidays.
