Dr John Barrett, house surgeon at St. Thomas's Hospital, stated that the deceased was admitted on June 21 with symptome of an affection of the right (and only) kidney, and it was decided to oper- ate on July 15. She was placed under an anesthetic, but before they could start the operation the patient collapsed, ceased to breathe, and her pulse went. Artificial respiration was resorted to. and on the heart being mas saged it became regular, and she again breathed. Her heart and breathing went on for thirty hours, but she then died.
Dr. B. Boggan, who gave the unsthetic," said that when the surgeon massaged the heart it started to beat again, and a quar. ter of an hour later respiration restarted, and went on without assistance. The patient's colour was good, and she was sent back to bed. She remained in the same condition until the next night, when she went downhill rapidly and died.
