There is a succession of firm markets, in China Cotton, prices on the whole, ruled about half a tael higher than that prevailing during the previous period, state Mesars, J. Spunt and Co., in their weekly report on the local cotton market. The principal factor contributive to the strengthening of the local market was the con- tinued drought in many import- ant sections of the cotton belt, though little complaint of damage has been thus far received. "It is generally believed that the crop is now two to three weeks later than
