An earthquake, which was felt in the Channel Islands yesterday afternoon was of some severity. Houses in Saint Helier and other places rocked for several seconds, and a tidal wave was formed round the coasts. The tremor caused considerable alarm in Jer- sey Guernsey, and Alderney. Goods fell from the shelves of shops, whilst in houses pictures and ornaments were shaken from their places on to the floor.
