A MODEL VILLAGE?
DR. T'SO'S SUGGESTION FOR NEW TERRITORIES.
SANITARY MEASURES.
The suggestion was made by Dr. T'so at yesterday's meeting of the Sanitary Board that a model, yilinge be laid out in the New Territories in order that villagers whose land had been re- sumed by the Government might not set up elsewhere under the insanitary conditions which had led to the resumption of their old land. He thought the Govern- ment might be asked to formu- late such a scheme so that such villagers should be. given the chance to live under better and healthier conditions.

a pity that the Committee, whilst they were about it, did not go fur- ther and urge the imperative necessity both of increasing at once the numerical strength of the Sanitary Department and allocating sufficient funds to give effect to their reform proposals, Thus, take Pokfulam village, in
of the neighbourhood which modern European houses are being erected and in the proximity of which is the Dairy Farm. One of the main industries, say the Committee, is pig rearing for the Hongkong market, but lies and mosquitoes are prevalent, whilst the Cplonial, Veterinary Surgeon supports the Committee's view that the main milk supply of the Colony is in danger by the pre- sence of this village."
