Worcester's 1st innings closed for 120 runs, the remain- ing 6 wickets falling for an addi- tion of 78 runs. C. G. Macartney took 5 wickets for 38 runs and C. V. Grimmett 4 wickets for 2 runs.

Championship prospects in the "B" division were held out for the M.B.K.. but they have disappoint

ning sequence in mid-week by going down to the University--and going down so badly (36-63)—on their own ground. The defeat is diff.tors. cult to understand, for, as a mem- ber of the M.B.K. team confided to me, they cannot quite account for it. In their last match to-morrow (weather permitting, of course) the M.B.K. will meet the Chinese R.C., and a win will leave them. with hopes of being on top at the and.

In another mid-week match in the "A" division the Hongkong C.C. beat the University team by a single game, this incidentally being their first win. Both now stand at the bottom of the section on an even footing.

Tho league tables appended give the standing to date. The position to date would be better understood if I point out for the beneft of those who are not aware of the system under which the games are played that the "A" and "B" teams meet each other once and the "C" teams twice.

With prospects of good weather, more matches are likely to be

away from home. This may or may not affect their sequence of wins. They will find the Craigengower team a tough pro- position on the Valley green, and they will need to pay all they know to win. They cannot afford to lose a game if they still hope to secure the second division cham- pionship.

The offer of a cup for inter- Departmental competition. has raised quite a deal of interest amongst Government Depart ments, and there is no doubt that the competition will be a success. This is something that should have been thought of years ago, not only for lawn bowls, but for all branches of sport, and I am sure further offers of trophies for cricket; football, etc, will be accepted and com- peted for with enthusiasm.

The first game in this new com- petition is due to be played on Sunday, July 25, if possible on the Police Recreation Club green.com- mending at 3.80 p.m. Consensus
