[From Our Own Correspondent.)
Canton, June 29. General Chang. Kai-shek has some plan, which puzzles even the most astute of Canton politicians.
No. 19,841 HONGKONG, THURSDAY, JULY 1, 1926.
Yesterday the acting chairman of the Executive Committer General Tan Yen-kai proposed that General

Then Cheung Yan-kit, chairman
of the Central Executive Committee'
of the Kuomintang took the chair and proposed, in view of the fact That General Chang Khi-shek will soon leave for the fighting front, that a special sexsion of the entire Centrul Exeedtfe Committee be held for "special business" on July 4
Doing the Impossible.
This motion
was unanimously earried, and telegrams were sent aammoning all 36 members to be here on Sunday.. Of course many of them will fŋé it phyfically im possible to arrive here in time for the sessions, but most of those who will be unable to make the trip in the time specified are lukewarm or hostile toward Chang Kalshel, so the fact of their non-attendance will be immaterial.
It has been announced in advance that gest Sunday's session will "concern, governmental affairs," and that the results of the meeting will he kept secret.
The Nationalist Government, yes- terday appointed Tang Chuk-yu to be the Central Executive Commit- tee's representative on the board of directors of the $20.000,000 com- pany being organised to promote the development of" the Whampoa harbour. This selection displeases most of the Canton people, who had hoped to see Cantonese put in this place. instead of a Chekiang sup-, porter of Chang Kai-shek.
No More Conscription? The Government's Northern expe- dition seems to be taking the form of a real determined push against Wa Peitu's allies at last. There are extensive military preparations of all kinds under way hert, and the movement cf" troops northward has become a daily occurrence.
Alarmed by the indignation of the people against last week's con- scription of coolice for service at the front, the Government has issued to the police and caused to be widely placarded a new order strictly forbidding further com- mindeering of coolies.
The term of service is announced as two or three months, and the wage will be $12 per month per man, with a rice allowance of $2.40 per month, and an additional 60 cents per month for straw sa dals. The police are doubly cau- tioned that only volunteers may be accepted for this service.

In the House of Commons, Commander J. M. Kenworthy (Liberal, Central Hull) ask- ed what docks in British, ter- ritory in the Pacific were capable of accommodating the largest warships and what docks of such a size were being prepared in the Pacific besides those at Singapore?
After Mr. W. C. Bridge- man, First Lord of the Ad- miralty, had given the particulars requested Com- mander Kenworthy asked whether Mr. Eridgeman Ead considered with the Austra- lian Government the en-. largement of the dock accommodation at Sydney to enable it to take the largest ships?
Mr. Bridgeman replied that he was unable to say that he had done so recently, but he was unable, without notice, to say when the last com- munication occurred.
Mr. F. C. Penny (Conserva-.. tive, Kingston-on-Thames) asked Mr. Bridgeman to con-.. sider the advisability of sell- ing the Naval land and docks at Hongkong and devoting the proceeds to the building of the Singapore base.
