YOUTH CONVICTED.
"A Chinese youth was charged before Major C. Willson at the Central Magistracy this morning with being in possession of nine forged one dollar notes of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, Evidence of the discovery of five of the notes was given by a searcher who investigated some thing bulging from defendant'a girdle on his way to board the s.s, "Hydrangea." In a further search other notes were found hidden in his shoes. "The keeper of a boarding house gave evidence of these forged notes having been tendered when asked to make a deposit before the defendant could get lodgings. These notes, witness said, were forgeries at first glance, and when questioned regarding them de fendant told him he got them at Kwong Chow-wan.
Mr. R. Moodie, of the Hong- kong and Shanghat Bank deposed to the notes being spurious,
His Worship held that the de- fendant knew the notes were forged by concealing them as he did and sentenced him toni months' hard labour,
