CHAN'S ADVANCE.
WAJCHOW. AND OTHER POINTS THREATENED,
LATEST SWATOW NEWS.
During the week-end. newy reached Hongkong that General Chan Kwing-ming's' forces were moving forward from their baac, Swatow, and retaking territory which they formerly held. It is gathered from a very reliable source that the present objective is not Canton. Rather, it is pro- posed to advance where there is little chance of resistance, taking advantage of the possible, dis- agreement between the Cantonese
element of the Kuomintang and the Whampoa Cadets.
Some of Chan's armies are now moving on Walchow city, Tam Shui and Ping Shan, all points of strategic importance on the West River. All through, there has been little or no fighting. A small detachment of Whampoa Cadets has been cut off.

Nothing has yet been decided with regard to the methods of applying the £3,000,000 lou which has been promised to the Hongkong Government on behalf of leal trade, although it is gen- rully anticipated that the Banks will be the medium through which it is made available locally.
Bonnd up with this question is that of exchange, for it is obvious that the direct transferral of such most upsetting factor in this re- 4 large som from Home would be a

There had been no transference of money and the whole subject was under consideration, a "Ching Mail representative was informed officially.
