Mr. H. L. Pearce, of the editorial staff of the "North China Daily News" who is in the General Hos- pital, Shanghai, suffering from pneumonia, is making slow but steady progress toward recovery.
According to the Nieuwe Scura- baya Courant very few people know of the medicinal spring at Gadek, near Bultenzorg. The water has practically as many pro- perties as Hamburg and twice, as many as Wiesbaden.

It is expected that the Indian Army Manoeuvres will take place in the Northern Command early in the cold weather between Rawalpindi and Peshawar. The idea of holding combined man- œuvres between the Eastern Squadron and the Indian Army has been held in abeyance.
Major-General Parr. Military. Secretary to the Commander-in- Chief, Simia, is proceeding Home on, medical leave. Prince Olaf of Norway, who is an undergraduate at Balliol, has been spending a few days at Buckingham Palace with the King and Queen. The young Prince has inherited the high spirits and many of the manner- isms of his mother, Queen Maud, who, in her - English Princess days, was known as "the Royal Tomboy." Prince Olaf is very popular with his English-re- latives, .. and matchmaking rumourists have already suggest- ed the possibility of his wedding an English bride. At Oxford Norway's Crown Prince is known as a good sportsman. He recent ly set a river fashion for men by wearing a gaily-coloured printed silk handkerchief folded bandeau. wise round his brow while row- ing.
It was obvious to those who accompanied H.R.H.. Prince George during his brief stay in Ceylon that he enjoyed every minute he was aahoro. He was charmed by the scenery which unfolds itself on the journey to. Kandy, and frequently he com- mented on its beauty. The in habitants of a number of villages turned out to see the Prince, lining the road as the Royal car passed. Kandy was reached at 180 p.m., and the party proceeded to the King'a Pavilion, where they were received-by-the Acting Governor,h the Hon. Mr. Cecil Clementi and Mra. Clementi, who had arrived from Nuwara Eliya the previous evening. Accompanying His Royal Highness were Major Brooke, the Hon. Mr. E. B Alexander, Lieut. Halsey, and Mr. G. Manwaring, of the CLD. Major Brooke is a son of the former Rajah of Barewak and a brother of the present Rajsh.
