ZABERN REVIVED,
PRUSSIAN SOLDIERS'
EXPLOIT
Apparently General Seeckt hatt not toiled in vain.. A Munich telegram indicates that he had succeeded in reviving Prussian militarism in a form recalling the glories of Zabera. The message tells of the part played by the Reichswehr at a dance given by an elderly sausagemaker at Kempten. Two sergeants were among the guests, but they behaved so insule ingly to a waitress that the host asked them to leave. After many persuasions they were manoeuvred out at about three in the morning, but they soon returned with five of their comrades, and, taking posses ston of the dance, room, set them selves to annoy other guests. When remonstrated with the leader, of the gang decred truculently, "We will not go. I have served thirteen years, and have all the high arders. A soldier goes only

Not unnaturally, this behaviour produced a fracas.. The sergeants had the advantage in weapons, and the host received a sabre slash oa the head, but the were seriously out- numbered, and, with the help of chairs and beer-mugs, were even- tually routed. The ringleader took refuge under the table and. implored that his life might be spared. It was, and he was escort- spirit is not so easily quelled. resumed the offensive with great vigour. With the war-cry of "A pack of civilians" the force "advanced against the now cowed enemy, not forgetting even women," and there were various woundings," says the unhappily laconic report. Finally the soldiers arrested three of the other guests and led them. off to the guard-rooms.
