INDIAN WATCHMAN SENT FOR TRIAL.
The Indian watchman, Bachan Slagh, who was arrested with a revolver in his possession, was committed for trial at the Sessions by Mr. S. B. B McElderry, at the Central Magistracy yesterday.
The case against the other man, Baksish Singh, who is alleged to have passed over the weapone to the other man shortly before the arrest, will be continued..
A 6-TON LIFT.
An object of much interest to passers by at Statue Square during yesterday's tiffin hour was a six- tan transformer which had toppled over into the gutter near the Supreme Court whilst in course of transit from a junk to the premises of the Hongkong Electric Com- pany Ltd:
Rudimentary but effective were the methods used to right the
thing by the numerous coolles on the work, although it took them, 'nearly an hour and a half.
A tripod of timber was raised above it and the nearest supports used for
guys. These pillars of the Supreme Court on were the one side and the Cenotaph on the other. The latter being very rightly objected to, the ropes were affixed to a lamp.standard.
The coolies who were pulling the transformer, to which was affixed wheels, had a very narrow escape from death when 10 fall over.
