Good Fight for the Champion Stakes.

Another big day of racing. Sir Paul Chater broke his spell of ill luck by annexing the Governor's Cup, with Mystic Dahlia. The Ladies' Purse went to Mr. John Peel's Booran. The principal event on the card-the Champion Stakes-was won by Local Option.

After the fourth race, H.E. the Governor handed to Sir Paul Chater the cup presented by him and won by Mystic Dahlia in the third race.

His Excellency said that it was Mr. Heard highly gratifying to him that Sir Mr. Maitland Paul had won this, the fourth cup Mr. Crokam he had presented.

Lt.-Com. Thompson. Replying, Sir Paul said that he Mr. MacBain. was extremely proud to have won Mr. Doyle the Governor's Cup.. With a Mr. Moller smile, he added: "If there is Mr. Gibson another cup coming, I shall bej Mr. Pollock very pleased to win that too." Mr. Buck"

Sutton Clerk of the Mr. Zellensky" Course) then 'conducted Mr. Mait Mr. Haimovilch land, who won on Booran in the Mr. Harriman fourth race, to the Grand Stand Mr. Sewell where Miss Margaret Stirling Capt. Oxspring (daughter of Commander A. J. E. Mr. Potts.. Stirling, C.B.) handed the lucky Mr. Davies jockey the Ladies' Purse.

Amid cheers, Mr. Maitland pre- sented Miss Stirling with a bouquet of roses fastened together with ribbon in the Jockey Club's colours. Thanking Miss Stirling, Mr. Maitland expressed his plea sure at winning the Ladies' Purse, -his first in Hongkong..

The Race Described. To a fairly good start Kagashima led with Grey Morn and Victoria oĮ running together second. Kaga- shima led into the straight with Victoria on the outside and Grey Morn on the rails two lengths behind, but still second. Charcoal was last. This order was main- tained rounding the post for the first time, and the ponies strung put going round the Civil Service Club end. Local Option was the first to increase the comparatively slow pace, making his effort from the bottom of the incline. Ho passed Grey Morn for third place, but Victoria also spurted. Kaga- shima gave the lead to Victoria at the Rock. Coming down the incline Kagashima fell out of the race Victoria still held the lead Charcoal then responded to vigorous, riding by 6.
