BROKER'S APPEAL. ~
JUDGMENT DELIVERED THIS AFTERNOON.
MR. J.H.N. MODY'S CASE.
T
The application of Mr J. H. N. 1 Mody, the Hongkong.broker, for a reversal of the decision given against him in respect of a trans action between the Bank of East Asia and the Bank Industrielle 'da Chine was refused by the Full Court this afternoon.
The case was one in which the defendant acted as broker and guarantor for the purchase by the Bank of East Asia from the Bank Industrielle de Chine of £10,000 sterling. Before the money waS paid to the Bank of East Asia's agents in London the French bank closed its doors and suspended payment.
that there was little doubt in the mind of the sponsors here as to the capabilities of the rotor ship in navigating rough weather. There would appear to be grounds for this optimism, for in an article in the current number of the Empire Review the inventor, Anton Flettner, gives scientific calcula- tions in support of their view! which look sound enough on paper at any rate. The sum total of them would appear to be that there is a limit to the wind pressure on the rotating cylinders, this being due to the fact that increase in pressure depends upon the relation of circumferential speed to wind speed, and that the circumferential speed can be main- tained at a constant level without exceeding a maximum jimit. Herr Flettner even goes so far as to claim that heavy squalls have no appreciable effect on a ship, but pass it by without hardly leaving a perceptible trace. The nautical control of the ship is extremely simple, according to the inventor. "One man is able to control the for Mr. Mody and Mr. Eldon rotor electrically," he writes, Potter K. C. and Mr. F. C.
