After an additional 22 runs had been scored, Sutcliffe fell a victim to Ponsford, off Mailey (4 for 155).

Gregory (6 for 254)...

Kilner and Tate added 25 before the latter was bowled by Mailey (7 for 279).

Gilligan then joined Kilner and the third century was passed. Twelve runs later Kilner's innings came to an end (8 for 312).'
