$40,000 OPIUM
REVENUE OFFICERS' FIND
OTHER DRUGS SEIZED.
Through ceaseless, vigilance the Imports And Exports Department have brought to fight two more at- tempts to smuggle illicit drugs through Hongkong.
Yesterday, Revenue Officers were particularly busy, embarking on several searches two of which
bore fruit, as large seizures were made.
On-board-the-Haihang they discovered about 4,000 tacts of prepared opium which would be valued, at a conservative estimate at $10 per tack As the "Haibong" game from "Amoy and Swatow. It is conceivable that the opium was prepared from the doppy grown in South China, ie, in the provinces of Kwangtung and Fukien, in which there are abundant instances of Satense cultivation.
A collection of drugs such da morphine, cocaine etc., which
is probably worth a good deal more than the spipment of opium, being of greater intrinsic value per unit, was seized on board the "Hosang" which came in S.A. from Japan ports.
This amounted to tpproximately 2,000 601LCEA,
