MUITSAI IS INVOLVED IN CASE.

A remand case to which a Chinese woman, named Cheung Chat, is charged with harbouring

an pomarried girl under the age of 21 and with intent to use ber for purposes of prostitution was heard at the Central Magistracy yesterday afternoon before Mr. J. R. Wood.

Mr. D. McCallum, defending, pleaded guilty to a technical offence in regard to the first charge, but advanced in extenua- tion that the defendant was moved by motives of charity.

Mr. R. A. C. North, of the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs, said that the girl in the case, a muissai of 16, was sold four years ago to a Chinese lady living. at Bosham Road. The girl ran away in July and the mistress met her in the street early this month. When the girl was asked to return, a squabble ensued which ended in both the parties appearing at the Police Station. It was stated by the gul at first that she was liv ing with her mother at Aberdeen Street, and she later said that the defendant had boughther from an- other woman for $250.

The case was adjourned.
