When the American 'round-the-world fliers reached their home" station, San Diego, California, at the actual completion of their flight, Lieutenant Lowell Smith, flight commander, was greeted_by his mother and, father, who motored down from their home in Los Angeles, while Lieutenant Jack Harding, his mechanician, cheered by his mother, Mrs. Roberta Chase Harding.

The French declare he is the "master mind" in the gang of pirates who boardede the French steamor "Mul- house" and-stole her entire £40,000 whiskey cargo. Phaft asserts he was in Canada at the time and knew nothing of the piracy.
