CRICKET
INTERPORT TRIAL.
"ICHABOD NOT WRITTEN.”

There can be little doubt that interest in cricket in Hongkong is increasing materially-a source of much antisfaction to the older enthusiasts and possibly to the younger generation.
In this connection some will probably recall the words of the Hon. Mr. H. W. Bird, chairman at the last interport, cricket dlaner in Hongkong in 1922, who said something to this effect:-
"I have one word to say in conclusion, to the younger generation-the Websters, the Mitchells, the Owen Hughes's the L. Davies's-see to it you don't let cricket die out in Hong- kong (Applause)-when we have to write the word "Ichabod" over the names of our old-time warriors -R. E. O. Bird, the brothers Hancock, Tam Pearce, Percy Cox and the rest of them"
Some very interesting, and at times, very bright, cricket was provided. Hardly any new talent was revealed although one or two of the "slightly doubtful" candi- dates practically forced themselves

FRANCE, AND RUSSIA,
NEWSPAPER. COMMENT.
NOTE AND REPLY.
(Router's Service.)
Paris, October 29. The French note to Russia con veying recognition_stipulates that retognition will in nowise infringe any undertaking entered into by France. It also expressly reserveS the rights of the French Govers ment and citizens respecting the obligations of former Russian regimes, and finally, insists on mutual non-interference in the other's internal affairs.
The Soviet Government's reply expresses the hope that all ques- tions mentioned in the French note will be satisfactorily settled in the forthcoming negotiations. It welcomes the French declaration regarding internal non-interfer- ence.
