A Dancing Boom.

THE CHINA MAIL.

Winter at Home is 'to go a phenomenal boom in dancing, for which a good many speculators are preparing by building or adapting halls wherein men and maidens may disport themselves to their heart's delight and all for half-a-crown If dancing does not turn out to be a greater draw than tennis has been this summer, they have little hope of seeing their capital back. Why tennis "should have fallen so flat is à in ystery. Perhaps its former popularity was Ftoo good to last...

A New Game.

This is ideal for longer evenings, when we have to stay indoors. Two rows of players sit facing each other, and another player, | blindfolded, has to walk between their ranks. First he must spin round three times, so that he shall not know which side is which, or If he does not do so, all the players. must change seat as soon as he is blindfolded. The blind man now!« commences to. walk between the! two rows of players, and then suddenly one asks a question. The bilod man must try to identify the questioner, and if he cannot do so, he must continue his walk until someone else speaks. If he does gues5 the name of the speaker, he or she must take his place au blind man. If the blind man reaches the end.of the line- without having identified a ques- tioner, he must turn and retrace his steps. Players must not dis- guise their voices, though ́their tone may be high or low, as they please. This is excellent practice in knowing people by their voices... Glasgow'Tricky Ravena

I wonder (writes J. B. G.) how many have seen the, two ravens in Kelvingrove Park. They are.... a- quaint pair, and chiefly frequent the upper paths. Here they hobble about most afternoons, making friends with the occupants of the seats. They are quite young birds, but their wisdom is positively un canny at times. Their great delight is to bring a stone, which you are expected to bury in the earth; at once they dig it up and lay it at your feet, just as a dog does a stick. Glyen a chance, I know from experience that no pick- pocket could relieve you of a handkerchief, pencil or fountain- pen more quickly or neatly thán they can. It seems that, should contributions of food from the children fail any day, there is one house to which they invariably go for a meal, These two brought to console the mate of the old raven who died this year. He was full of mischief, and, being a great pal of the park gardeners, began to imitate them, but with disastrous results. His gardening tock the form of waiting until they had rows of plants bedded out, and, as soon as the workers were safely i gone, uprooting every one they had put in that day. Scolding and cuffing taking no effect on him, he was shut up until the season for planting out was over. He took badly to captivity, pined and frett- ed, and soon died-of a broken heart, his friends the gardeners sorrowfully say..

How It Leaked Out

were

Few Items of news in recent days have caused so much discus- sion as the story of Mr. Ramsay MacDonald's. Investments. From the newspaper point of view, it is an instance of what is nearest the |eÿe being hardest to see, since the facts were not, concealed. If all rumoured is correct, the news reached the press vin the Conserva- tive headquarters, where it was taken by a certain bright young politician. This discloses two rather surprising factors. The first is that the politician in question did not dispose of the news to a newspaper for monetary gain, and the second is that the Conservative Central Office turned it over to the press, instead of placing it in the old oak chest, where, one supposes the Party secrets repose along with many a" story" which would have been to the Party's advantage had it been published. Times are changing. At this rate we shall soon be able to go into a political headquarters without our top hat, and we shall emerge without having grown a beard while walk- ing on the premises.
