**Napoleon" Of His Staff.
Eccentricities of authors are allowed and wondered at by the layman. This is true even of our present day writers of note. None that can be named as famous to- day, however, can compare with that widely-read French author and playwright, Alexandre Dumas..
Dumas succeeded na.a dramatist when very young. He quit his first profession, which was that of a solicitor, in order to devote his full time to writing. He has several hundred stories to his credit and a large number of successful plays. Eventually, Home say after he reached his thirty- fifth year, he called about him a number of young writers and instructed. them as to his needs and wants. He termed himself the "Napoleon" of his staff." He gave them the essence of a plot and they wrote the details. In this manner he was credited with the authorship of many stories which, in reality, were the fruits of his assistants,
The William Fox super-produc tion, "Monte Cristo," which is now coming to the Coronet Theatre, was taken from Dumas' famous story of the adventures of The Count of Monte Cristo. This story was originally written in twelve volumes. The modern version is in two volumes and can be found. on the shelves of any public Hibrary.

$50,000 Fald For Four Words
Baseball magnates have pald huge sums of money for baseball players, publishers have paid huge" sums for books, trainers have paid great sums for race horses, but William Fox has set a record. He has just paid $50,000 for the use of four words. That is a high water mark.CAR
That tidy amount has just been paid to the estate of the late James O'Neill, actor, for the right to use four words that made O'Neill universally famous, "The World Is Mine," The sentence is indis- solubly associated, throughout the world, with the master play "Count of Monte Cristo."
Thousands of theatre patrons who never heard of the elder Duras are familiar with the phrase used in what is called the greatest romance of all history
Singularly enough Dumas da not write"The world is mine! nor does the line appear in any of the French editions of the novel Its authorship is credited to O'Neill, who played in spoken drama, the wonderful story of Edmund Dantes for a period of over a quarter of a century and appeared in all of the principal cities of the new and old worlds
