Countess of Minto, Lady Dalal, Lady Tata, Lady Jehangir, Lady Iman, Lady Galway, Ms. Chaud- huri, Mrs: Sen, Mrs. Milter, and Miss Gorrella Sarabji. Among others present were:
Sir Cowasji Jehangir, Sir Ali Imam, Mr. N. M. Samandh, Sir K. A. Gupda, Lady Lawley, Lady Pinhey, Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Talayarkhan, M.P., Mrs. Harris; Mrs. Wintringham, M.P., Mrs. Philipson, M.P., Miss Du Cane, Lady Lloyd, Mrs. Polak, Lady Sydenham, and Lady Pentland.
Lady Willingdon, who presided, said she would never forget the constant friendship, goodwill, and affection she had received from all classes of Indian people, and it was her confident hope that those women of both races who loved India would co-operate to cement the ties between the two countries, Lady Jehangir said that as a Parsee she inherited the traditions of ancient Persia, where the women were free, and strong. About sixty-five years ago the great men of the Parsee community decided that it was time their women were educated and their freedom restored, and there ensued a tug-of-war between the orthodox and the reformers. Indian women who were growing up had not now to fight for their freedom, and they were eager to share in the world's work. They were agitat- ing-for-the right to stand for election to Indian, councils and assemblies.
Lady All Imam, a Mohammedan lady, described how she was brought up in the strict seclusion of the Indian zenana till she mar ried at the age of 21, and out of deference to the wish of her hus band broke the purdah on her wedding day. "I am happy to say after five years that the experience has proved exceedingly agreeable," she went on. "Nevertheless the .purdah has advantages that cannot be entirely compensated for by the acquisition of freedom out of it. The real home in India is ever this day behind the purdah, whether it be Hindu or Mahommedan. The Outside world knows little of the high station occupied by Indian women in their homes; it is a mistake to think that the zenana walls hold captives labouring under masculine authority. The ", children in my country

brought up in, the faith
Paradise is under the feet of the mother:'" Lady Imam added that In the process of emancipation she hoped her Western sisters would interest themselves in ensuring that the priceless good in Indian zenana life would not be lost.
Dr. Kate Piatt, speaking on "Medical Work in India, said that over 7,000,000 children were bom in a year and over 100,000 mothers "died. She emphasised the urgent need for training medical women in every. Pre-1 sidency and province, and' ox- pressed her surprise that Indian women had not entered the nursing profession in greater numbers.
Mrs. Chaudhuri said that many Indian men had the advancement of women at heart, but a great many did not care for their wives to take part in outside work, and even if they did not object, disliked them to devote much time to it.
